It was a very proud moment to look back to 1992 when I started STRESS UK alongside my business partner Trevor Gregory. He set up STRESS Far East in Hong Kong and we ran things in parallel.
My love of solving problems has never changed, and it’s still what we do best. I can’t think of a better profession than being a civil engineer. Nothing in the world gets designed or built without our input and ingenuity.
Running the company in a family style has meant we have had huge loyalty from our staff and technicians. Our team today is stronger than ever.
Geotechnics, structural repair and strengthening, heritage engineering, bridge refurbishment and specialist consultancy form the backbone of our work. One of our major achievements has been to design, develop and patent the ReFORCE ground injection system which we have been installing all over the UK for more than 15 years.
The ReFORCE system is run through our intellectual rights company GEOInnovations Ltd and my great friend Simon Collis. This safe, low carbon and economic way of strengthening the ground has been used for underpinning, piling, soil stabilisation and to assist with settlement control in basement construction.
Bridges are another passion. Since starting Bridgetech International back in 2000 we acquired in 2012, Goldhawk Bridge Restoration Ltd. Thanks to the ingenuity of Goldhawk’s Bob Falconer and Brian Boughton, we are kept busy installing the unique MARS system around the country. This innovative system is designed for the strengthening and preservation of our historic stock of masonry arched bridges.
With two new young directors, Stuart Roberts and Gary Stevens helping drive the STRESS group forward, we are all feeling very excited about the future. We aim to continue to use innovation to solve client’s structural and strengthening problems.
